The ability to add further copper and fiber Fast Ethernet or Gigabit modules to the chassis or starter kits allows the Switch 4005 to adapt to changes as the network grows.

Support for 100Base-FX makes the 3Com Switch 4005 an ideal aggregator for fiber Fast Ethernet to the desktop, or for cost-effective long distance connectivity.

The 3Com Switch 4005 offers hardware redundancy with the ability to support dual fabrics and power supplies. Software resiliency features such as OSPF and Link Aggregation help ensure the Switch 4005 is ready.

The support for feature-rich Layer 3 switching allows future protection and security through the use of Access Control Lists.
