3Com® Switch 7700
High performance, convergence-ready, modular Gigabit switch
The 3Com Switch 7700 modular LAN switch delivers high performance, multilayer, Gigabit and Fast Ethernet switching and routing in an integrated platform. Business continuity for data and voice convergence applications is assured in demanding core and campus environments.
Resilient Layer 3 routing, hot-swap modules, and redundant power help deliver 24 x 7 operation. Quality-of-Service (QoS) and bandwidth management ensure optimum quality for real-time applications like voice and video.
Customers can secure their network from unauthorized access through Network Login, Access Control Lists and authenticated Layer-3 Protocols. Flexibility and scalability ensure investment protection with future support for 10 Gigabit Ethernet and high density Gigabit Ethernet.
The 3Com Switch 7700 Starter Kit contains a seven-slot chassis with pre-installed dual power supplies, a fan assembly and the switch fabric. The chassis supports up to six of the following switch modules:
- 3Com Switch 7700 8-port 1000BASE-X Gigabit Ethernet Interface Module
- 3Com Switch 7700 8-port 1000BASE-T Module
- 3Com Switch 7700 48-port 10/100BASE-TX Module
- 3Com Switch 7700 24-port 100BASE-FX Module
The 3Com Switch 7700 enables XRN-enabled networks to scale to multiple thousands of users, with a Switch 7700 providing the core connectivity and the XRN-enabled switches providing aggregation into the core.
Features & Benefits
- Local switching on modules: reduces congestion to enable applications to run faster, improving the quality of video and voice traffic
- Jumbo frames: increased efficiency through support for packets of up to 9KB, ideal for server-to-server backups
- 802.3ae 10 Gigabit standard capable: investment protection, knowing your core will scale to meet future bandwidth requirements
- Hardware Multicast Routing: reduced packet loss and latency times are vital for voice and video
- Network Login: blocks all packet packets onto the network until users are authenticated (802.1X RADIUS) to increase network security and enables user accountability
- Access Control Lists (ACL's): constrains users to areas of the network they are authorized for, using Layer 2/3/4 content-based packet prioritization and traffic filtering
- Layer 3 Protocol Authentication: MD5 authentication prevents unauthorized Layer 3 devices joining the network, reducing snooping
- Traffic classification: rule based packet identification (e.g. voice) and prioritization to improve quality, or block unwanted applications
- Bandwidth limitation: both input and output queues control traffic and prevent saturation based on application or location
- Bandwidth management: both input and output queues provide packet prioritization and management to prevent packet discard or delay due to congestion; vital for voice and video
